Two people were shot near the MTA Flint transportation center this morning on Tuesday, April 16.
Flint Police Det. Sgt. Tyrone Booth noted a man and a woman had been shot. He added through security footage it appears two people had been shooting back and forth at each other. According to Booth, the incident likely started in another city.
A 33-year-old man who police believe was involved in the shooting was in critical condition. The other man thought to have been involved fled the shooting scene and is being looked for.
After being grazed by a bullet, a 21-year-old woman was in good condition as of publication time.
MTA announced it was closed because of the shooting, but it has reopened.
The nearby University of Michigan-Flint also sent an emergency alert to students Tuesday morning encouraging students to secure in place and avoid the bus station at the time.
UM-Flint students received this message:
Gunshots reported MTA Station at 8:13. Lockdown, secure in place. Avoid area. If necessary, RUN, HIDE, FIGHT. Update: umflint.edu/alerts
The university lockdown was later lifted on the same day.
Police said the shooting presented no active threat to the public.
