Three Genesee County groups will hold citizen rallies and marches as part of the National Day of Action planned by volunteer groups across the country, under the umbrella name NO KINGS. This will be the third such event since the start of the second Trump administration.
“The importance is, again, just highlighting the need to actually follow the Constitution as it is written, because we are facing an authoritarian regime that threatens all of our rights,” stated Treva Daniels-Carlson, a co-administrator with Indivisible GLOW.
“When you do not react, what you fought for will be lost,” she added.
Daniels-Carlson shared what she witnessed at the last NO KINGS rally that Indivisible GLOW was part of at Genesee Valley Mall.
“Several thousands of individuals were there,” she said. “It was an overwhelmingly joyful chance to let off some of the stress they were feeling.”
Daniels-Carlson said Indivisible GLOW did not expect as many people as there were. She added there were no serious incidents, calling it “beautiful.”
Three groups will take part in what is being called NO KINGS 3.0 on March 28.
The Bridge Brigade will gather at 12 p.m. at I-69 and Beach Street, a small group that is typically in that area.
“That really does encourage people, as they’re on their travels to and from work, or what have you, as there were some unforeseen circumstances in this year’s location where we were last year, June,” said Daniels-Calson. “They have some members that are older, or not as mobile, but definitely are still in the game. The key thing was to have as many folks out, and representing our cases…and what we’re standing up for, for the Constitution.
“Yes, the idea was, yes, to have that extremely large crowd at the Valley.
“But again, there were circumstances that just precluded that. And we were able to get together to have it here in Fenton.”
NO KINGS 3–FENTON will take place on the lawn of the Fenton Community Center (150 S Leroy St.), this Saturday, March 28, from 3 – 4:30 pm. with Indivisible GLOW.
“We will have somewhat of a rally-style program.”
Additionally, A group will still be at Genesee Valley Mall from 12-2 p.m. That group is known as the Genesee Resistance Indivisible Team, also known as GRIT.
“We share very similar ideals, but they are not actually an Indivisible group. But we have the same values and such.”
Daniels-Carlson added: “So we are cautiously optimistic and grateful for the victories that we have won thus far. I would say the courts upholding the checks and balances is the victory I am most grateful for.”
Indivisble GLOW pointed out that recent polling supports that Americans are becoming more united in their disdain for ICE in cities and airports, war in Iran, rising prices and shrinking rights. Many Americans are expected to participate in over 3,000 registered events across the country and beyond.
“Basically, we all have the same goal. You have to stand for what is right. And stand for the populace.”
