Recently, on March 23, Judge Judith E. Levy filed the order in U.S. district court to grant the request from Special Master Deborah Greenspan to begin authorizing partial payments for pending, approved adult injury claims.

Additionally, the order authorized payments for injury claims to adults with approved injury claims who were minors at the time of the water crisis.

More than 8,251 award letters were issued for payments for property damage claims, with payments capping at $1,000 having begun in December. Additional award letters are being sent to individuals with approved property damage claims, with 2,300 expected to be sent within about two weeks.

Greenspan is also continuing to hear appeals and escalated claims, which the claims administrator submits to her for resolution.

Levy initially gave final approval of the settlement on November 10, 2021.

On March 26, the City of Flint administration issued a statement to remind residents that the City has not been involved in decisions regarding eligibility for payments or the timing of their distribution.

“As a Flint resident, I certainly share the frustrations felt by residents over how long it has taken for the payments to be dispersed. I am thankful that Judge Levy has taken this step to begin distributing these funds. It is long overdue,” said Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley.
