Flint Community Schools Educators Nominated

Third Annual Excellence in Education Awards – June 4, 2018

The Education Foundation for the Flint Community Schools will present its Third Annual Excellence in Education Annual Awards to outstanding educators in the Flint Community Schools at a year-end ceremony. The Excellence in Education Awards honors individuals throughout the Flint Community Schools (FCS) who demonstrate the characteristics of highly effective and talented educators; who effectively engage students in the process of learning; and who have demonstrated evidence they met the criteria established for each award. The five award categories, include Leadership, Innovation, Putting Students First, the Harriet B. Kenworthy Literacy Award and the Dolores C. Ennis Lifetime Achievement Award.

Twenty-nine FCS educators have been nominated for these five awards.

The Awards Ceremony will take place on Monday, June 4 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Flint Farmers’ Market in downtown Flint.  The event is open to the public. Tickets are $25.  A reception will follow at 7:00 p.m. with food provided by Charile’s Smokin’ BBQ, the Beirut Restaurant, and the Crust bakery.

The winners will be selected by the Education Foundation Board of Directors.  Nominations were submitted by colleagues, supervisors, parents and community members.  Winners receive a cash prize along with their award and other gifts.

In addition to the Excellence in Education Awards, there will be a new award this year for a Distinguished Retiree as well as the annual Light a Candle Award, which is presented to an unsung hero who volunteers their time to help students.
