The Tire Project to provide job skills to North Flint residents

Flint Innovative Solutions (FIS) has partnered with Delta Tire to train north Flint residents in automotive repair careers. The Tire Project is a short-term intensive jobs training program that is funded by the Ruth Mott Foundation where participants will learn the in-demand auto repair job skills. Delta Tire is located at 3476 Saginaw St, Burton, MI 48529.

“Individuals who participate in The Tire Project will be ready to start a career in automotive repair after completing the intensive training program,” said Athena McKay, executive director of Flint Innovative Solutions.

“Employers in the auto repair sector are looking for qualified candidates,” McKay added. “We (Flint Innovative Solutions) are pleased to work with Delta Tire on this innovative program.”

The program’s goal is to prepare north Flint residents to work in tire repair shops. The eight-hour program will provide hands-on training to individuals interested in a career in the automotive repair industry so they can be ready to apply for positions as a tire technician. Individuals have the opportunity to advance their career with experience and gain additional skills. Sessions will take place monthly through February 2022.

Kyle Krupa, the owner/general manager of Delta Tire, is excited to host The Tire Project.

“As the owner of an automotive repair facility, I am always looking to hire qualified candidates,” Krupa said. “I am proud to participate in this training program. This program has the opportunity to be a beacon of hope for people who are ready to change their lives.”

The Tire Project has been expanded to brake repair and oil change in addition to tire repair. The program has received additional support from the Akebono Brake Corporation.
