The Flint Branch NAACP Continues To Thrive Under President Frances Gilcrest!

As a member of this nation's oldest and boldest civil rights organization, I greet you as the Flint Branch NAACP's President. I am humbly grateful for the opportunity to have served in this capacity for the last 8 years and I am looking forward to continuing to serve the people. More importantly, this branch, has had a significant impact on the lives of so many in this community. Our mission is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination. I have been dedicated to the mission of this Association, as our methods have evolved since the NAACP was birthed in 1909. We marched in the early days to demand that laws, policies, and procedures were non-discriminatory. We have moved into an era of "empowerment" in order to ensure that those laws, policies and procedures are enforced, from the boardroom to the courtroom. Our advocacy within our community has been relentless and unwavering.

Since I've been president, we have had many accomplishments which include: Awarded scholarships to over 20 college bound students. Each award being from $500.00 to $1,000.00 Conciliation Agreement with EEOC I Hurley Medical Center I NAACP Registered over 2,000 voters; held yearly political forums and Community Empowerment Reunions Fund and support our ACT-SO program for our 9th through 12th graders Our office is open at least three days a week for complaint intake; addressed nearly 400 complaints Met with over 75 Law Enforcement Agencies, Elected Officials and CEOs to discuss issues on discrimination. We have taken students to Legislative Day in Lansing, yearly. The Flint Branch has been in compliance with the National Office both structurally and financially.

Every foot soldier in the Flint Branch is a volunteer. The time, effort and the advocacy that is given, is simply because we believe in freedom and justice. That is why we are asking you to stay with the VISA Team; Vision, Integrity, Stability and Accountability, We have been there, doing the work of the Association, without any regard to personal agendas. I thank you for your support and am asking for your continued support on December 6th and for those who have been doing the work day in and day out.

Yours in the Struggle as it Continues,

Frances L. Gilcrest, Present
