My name is Brenda Anderson, president of Motivated by Faith, Inc. a nonprofit organization located in Flint, Michigan and founded in February 2024.
Motivated by Faith, Inc.’s mission is to reduce human trafficking and other associated risk factors to help our community to be whole, healthier, resilient and secure.
Motivated by Faith, Inc. is dedicated to bringing education and awareness to empower individuals about human trafficking. We incorporate other related factors that can make individuals more vulnerable to harm themselves and/ or others to exploit them in their weakest moments in life. We believe that if we can lessen risk factors such as addiction, mental health, homelessness, violence, bullying and other inequities, we can have an impact on the reduction of human trafficking.
We offer age specific tailored programs for various age groups, including children, adults, seniors, disabled and the faith-based leadership. We address these topics of discussion at educational institutions, churches, youth groups, public events and the senior community centers.
(One topic discussed with L. M. Land was elder abuse and the shocking forms it takes.)
Slide presentations, videos, interactive games, movies and other resource materials are used to help in the education process to develop the necessary dialogue for the learning experience. Our mission is to build resilience and provide critical resources through our workshops, support groups and community partners.
In September 2024, we were able to participate in a community event and provide 175 new pairs of tennis shoes to students at Greater Heights Academy, in Flint. Another 78 pairs of tennis shoes were given in Outreach services to those most in need. Simultaneously, we were working on our 1st “Stumping Out Human Trafficking” winter boot giveaway/drive for students. The recipients of the 190 pairs of winter boots were children located at Y.W.C.A. Children’s Shelter, the children of incarcerated parents through Motherly Intercessions, in Flint and in other outreach services.
In 2025, we continue our efforts to help children whose families are most vulnerable and may be struggling financially. We will be holding our first winter coat drive/giveaway on October 24, 2025 at Northridge Academy. We have coats ranging from infant, toddler, children and adults sizes for the students.
In 2024, I joined as a member of the Genesee County Human Trafficking Task Force. I am currently serving as a member of their educational committee.
In 2025, we have simultaneously started our 2nd. “Stumping Out Human Trafficking” giveaway/drive. In the September of 2025, we will be distributing brand new tennis shoes.
We have been offered awesome opportunities to serve seniors, disabled and others individuals in our community at the Mays Senior & Community Center and the McKinley Senior Center bringing education and awareness to keep them healthy and safe.
We have been recognized with interviews by other news outlets within months of our establishment, such as the Flintside News and WNEM in June 2024.
I have been recognized by the following:
⦁ Nomination for the Bryant Nolden Community Champion by the Flint & Genesee County Group in November 2024.
⦁ Motivated by Faith, Inc. was awarded the “Partner in Prevention Award by the Genesee County Prevention Coalition in November 2024.
⦁ In 2025, I received nomination for the “Caring Adult Award” at the 30th Children’s Champion Awards Celebration.
⦁ I have received a Prevention Champion Certificate that was awarded to me by Genesee County Protection Coalition in May 2025.
My journey of faith continues: on June 24, 2025, I was sworn in by Judge Weir as the newest member as a C.A.S.A. (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children in foster care. I am also serving as a volunteer through Voices for Children located in Flint.
Since 2019, I have served in many capacities for other nonprofit organizations. There is no greater service than to help others.
I am lifelong resident of Flint and watched it thrive through the automotive Industries. At one time, individuals had jobs with livable wages, beautiful neighborhoods and to- notch educational programs and institutions.
When opportunities no longer exist and/or inequalities develop, communities are affected in adverse circumstances and economic conditions. Flint is no different than other communities that don’t diversify in employment opportunities and have relied only on one main resource, such as in Flint with the automotive industry. When those businesses shut down factories and other facilities, it greatly impacts the community and environment in a negative way.
