Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox show coming November 8 to FIM Capitol Theatre

Written by Tanya Terry

During Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox show coming November 8 to FIM Capitol Theatre, showgoers will be able to experience “today’s hits, yesterday.” The show is celebrating a dual milestone of its 10th year touring along with their 1,000th show in 2024 with a world tour! The group has 6.32M subscribers and 446 videos on YouTube.

“They actually create vintage versions of modern music, mostly from Top 40 charts, said Ashley Poirier, manager of patron communications for FIM.

Poirier added: “They turn the pop music that we know into be-bop and doo-wop, big band, swing – and just create the sound from a completely different era. They add new instrumentation and a new vocal sound to things that we’re very familiar with.”

Poirier pointed out not only is Postmodern Jukebox’s following huge, but many people attend their shows in costume and “really go in on the vintage vibe.”

“I think it’s really special that here over a decade after this really unique group has come together, we have the opportunity to showcase them here in Flint and be their 1,000 concert,” said Poirier. “We have a diverse community here, and I think no matter what your music taste is, you will find something you like at this concert.”

One of Postmodern Jukebox’s more popular hits was “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor.

“It does have this 1920s sort of groove, but you definitely recognize the melody in that.”

They also have their own rendition of “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, and “fun boogie woogie arrangements of a couple of Spice Girls tunes.”

Post Modern Jukebox was founded by Scott Bradlee, a New York-based pianist and jazz musician. He became well known after releasing a ragtime rendition of a 1980s medley.

“He released it on YouTube and it went absolutely viral.”

So, Bradlee started a music collective called Post Modern Jukebox with a group of fellow musicians.

“They started recording music videos in his apartment around 2013.”

By 2014, Postmodern Jukebox was touring internationally.

“Now the collective is much larger. They’ve had many, many guest artists. I’m going to say upward of 70 different guest musicians and vocalists that have worked with them. They’ve actually had multiple tours going simultaneously with different groups of musicians.”

The show is brought to life by “some of the world’s best singers, dancers and instrumentalists.”

Casey Abrams will be on bass and singing.

Haley Reinhart, who first rose to prominence after placing third in the tenth season of American Idol, has also worked with Bradlee on the show. In addition, Broadway Actress Shoshana Bean has worked with Bradlee.

“He chooses a lot of American Idol contestants, and they’ll tour with him for a time or cut a single with him.”

Postmodern Jukebox continues to release a new music video every week.

“I really hope folks will give this show a shot. Whether you’ve heard of Postmodern Jukebox before, whether you think you like this type of vintage groove or not, challenge yourself to try something new. I guarantee that the energy of the show will be uplifting no matter what you expected.”
