Salvation Army Accepting Applications For Christmas Help

The Salvation Army will be taking applications for Christmas assistance from Monday, November 24 through Wednesday, November 26, 2014 from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm for Genesee County residents.   

Those in need of help with toys, food, and clothing for the holiday season will have the option of two locations to apply again this year.  The Salvation Army at 211 W. Kearsley Street in downtown Flint and The Salvation Army Beecher Corps located at 1475 W. Coldwater Road.  No appointment needed.

The Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance program is intended to help those who would otherwise be unable to celebrate Christmas.  To sign up for help, applicants must bring the following documents:

Current ID for all adults in the household – Social security cards or a print out from the social security office dated within 30 days and Michigan drivers’ licenses or Michigan IDs. 

Proof of dependents in the home – Birth certificates and social security cards or a print out from the social security office dated within 30 days.  (Must be parent or provide proof of legal guardianship).

Current bills – Bills must contain the name and address of the individual applying for assistance.  Current bills include rent, mortgage, water, gas, electric, phone, cable, etc.

Proof of income – Pay stubs, child support statements, Social Security, SSI, SSDI, DHS statement, unemployment/workman’s comp, etc.
