Rotary Club of Flint to host District 6330 Conference June 25-27 with theme ‘Imagine: Protecting the Environment’

 FLINT, Mich., June 21, 2023) – The Rotary  Club of Flint is hosting the annual Rotary  District 6330 Conference June 23, 24 and 25 at the Gateway Hotel and Convention Center. District 6330 is an international Rotary district with 56 clubs throughout central Ontario and southeast Michigan, including St. Clair, Lapeer and Genesee counties.

The conference theme for 2023 is “Imagine: Protecting the Environment.” Programs and speakers will look at efforts made locally, regionally, and internationally addressing climate change, alternative sources of energy, and restoring and preserving natural habitat, with a focus on the Great Lakes. Organizations from both the U.S. and Canada will share their work related to environmental sustainability, and Rotary Clubs will share how they are creating environmentally responsible service projects for their own communities.

“We are pleased to be able to meet in person again this year,” said Rotary District 6330 District Governor Mike Chaffee, member and past president of the Rotary Club of Flint.

“We hope the conference will inspire Rotarians with a renewed sense of environmental awareness and the enthusiasm to get a program started in their home clubs,” Chaffee added. “Together we will explore ways to create positive, lasting change across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.”

Speakers for the conference include:

Mayor Sheldon Neeley – Mayor, City of Flint

Michael Kelly – Director, Great Lakes office of The Conservation Fund

Ed Benning – General Manager, MTA

Dr. Robert K. McMahan – President, Kettering University

Kyle McCree, Rafael Turner, Chad Richards & Bruce Power – Consumers Energy

Jennifer Raymond – Executive Director, Flint River Watershed Coalition

Melissa De Young – Director, The Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup Project

The Rotary Club of Flint was organized on April 7, 1916. The club has grown from 23 charter members to now 125 men and women representing the business, professional and organizational leadership of the community.

The Rotary Club of Flint is one of eight clubs in Genesee County. The club foundation and members of the club provide support to organizations and individuals in a variety of ways, including:

  • Maintaining Rotary Park

  • Funding International Projects in India, Mexico and Haiti

  • Funding Development Projects in the Community such as the UM-Flint Urban Alternatives House, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan Hunger Solution Center and Hurley Children’s Clinic at the Flint Farmers Market

  • Volunteering at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan

  • Sponsoring Literacy Programs

  • Rotary is an international service organization made up of business and professional leaders interested in the welfare of their local community and the world. Rotary is the largest international volunteer service organization in the world with 1.2 million members.
