Rafael Turner named as community affairs manager for Genesee and Shiawassee Counties by Consumers Energy

Consumers Energy has named Rafael Turner as the new community affairs manager for Genesee and Shiawassee counties. Turner brings established relationships and leadership skills to the role as the company’s local government and community liaison.

“We are fortunate to have a highly regarded leader with an exceptional background aligning local resources and community outreach in this role enhancing the vitality of Consumers Energy as well as Genesee and Shiawassee Counties,” said Josh Burgett, Consumers Energy’s executive director of community engagement.

“In his new role, Rafael’s leadership will help drive our mission to cultivate trusted relationships within our company and communities,” Burgett added.

Before joining Consumers Energy, Turner was a program officer at the Ruth Mott Foundation where he aligned needs and opportunities of the community and the foundation. Turner also worked for the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce as the manager for government relations and community outreach. In addition, he served as community affairs manager for Sen. Carl Levin and as deputy district director for Congressman Dale E. Kildee.

Turner begins his position at Consumers Energy March 1, based in the Flint Service Center. He replaces Kyle McCree in the community affairs manager role. McCree accepted a new position as the director of state government affairs for Consumers Energy and will assist with Turner’s transition with the energy provider.

Turner holds a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Michigan-Flint.

Consumers Energy, Michigan’s largest energy provider, is the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy (NYSE: CMS), providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.7 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
