October events featured through Flint Public Library

The Flint Public Library at Courtland (4190 E. Court Street, Burton) is the temporary location of The Flint Public Library until early 2022 when renovation of 1026 E. Kearsley, Flint is expected to be complete.

The library is located east of Sloan Museum. There are a variety of books in all genres, music, DVDs and a dedicated children’s room. Computers, genealogy and local history are located in the Annex (across from the Goodwill).

The library is offering many virtual programs at this time. Visit fpl.info, choose join in, and click the calendar date for the Zoom link. Please note that all of these virtual events are free and anyone can register or request a link to attend.

1 p.m. Oct. 1:  Booked for Lunch Virtual. Join the author Benjamin Pauli as he talks about his book “Flint Fights Back: Environmental Justice and Democracy in the Flint Water Crisis.” Visit fpl.info, choose join in, and click the calendar date for the Zoom link.

10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Oct. 3:  Friends of the Flint Public Library Used Book Drop-Off, 1111 James P. Cole, Flint. Drop off gently used books, DVDs, CDs and VHS.

1 – 2 p.m. Oct. 3:  Super Saturday Virtual Story Time. Visit fpl.info, choose join in, and click the calendar date to find the Zoom link.

3 –  4: 30 p.m. Oct 3:  Minecraft from Home. Call 810-249-2569 to register and the library will email you an invitation. (Have your library card and gamer account name ready.)

5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Oct 7:  Minecraft from Home. Call 810-249-2569 to register and we will email you an invitation.  (Have your library card and gamer account name ready.)

11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Oct. 10:  Virtual Genealogy Workshop.  Call 810-249-2569 to register and receive a Zoom invitation via email.

1 – 2 p.m. Oct. 10:  Super Saturday Virtual Story Time. Visit fpl.info, choose join In, and click the calendar date for the Zoom link.

9 a.m. – 3 p.m. October 15: Friends of the Flint Public Library Used Book Sale at the Flint Farmer’s Market, 300 E. First St.Flint.

3 – 4:30 p.m. Oct 17:  Minecraft from Home.  Call 810-249-2569 to register and the library will email you an invitation.  (Have your Library card and Gamer Account Name ready.)

12 – 1 p..m. October 21: Fiction Only Book Club will meet via Zoom to discuss “Mercy Seat” by Elizabeth H. Winthrop, an incisive portrait of race, racism, and injustice in the Jim Crow Era South. Visit fpl.info, choose Join In, and click the calendar date for the Zoom link.

The Library is open Tuesday-Thursday, 11a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.; closed Sunday and Monday. A mask is required and visits are limited to one hour in the Annex and one hour in the library. For details, call 810.232-7111 or email askus@fpl.info
