New charges issued against Flushing Township man in brutal stabbing death of his wife

FLINT – Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has issued five new felony charges against a Flushing Township man related to the stabbing death of his wife in June.

Jeramie Lee Edenburn, 44, is charged with:
Count 1: Homicide – Felony Murder; punishable by Life in prison without parole
Count 2: Torture; Life or any term of years
Count 3: Criminal Sexual Conduct – 1
st Degree; Life or any term of years
Count 4: Criminal Sexual Conduct – 1
st Degree; Life or any term of years
Count 5: Animals – Killing/Torture – First Degree; 10 years and/or $5,000
Count 6: Concealing the Death of an Individual; 5 Years and/or $5,000

Prosecutor Leyton said a single count of felony murder was originally charged on June 24, pending the results of an autopsy and further review of all the evidence in light of the autopsy when it was complete. The autopsy report was delivered to the prosecutor’s office last Thursday afternoon, and the prosecutor tried to get an adjournment of the scheduled preliminary examination that was set for today, September 1, but the defense objected and moved the Court to continue with the scheduled exam on the lone charge of felony
murder.

“In light of the defense position to not stipulate to an adjournment based on new evidence, we were forced to dismiss the original homicide warrant and reissue with the new charges added which we feel is supported by the evidence now in our possession,” said Leyton.

“We realized from the beginning that there was more to this case and communicated as much to the defense,  but we could not add these additional charges until we had the necessary probable cause evidence supported by the autopsy,” Leyton added.

Leyton said the evidence from the investigation supports the prosecutor’s position that Edenburn brutally raped his wife, tortured her and stabbed her and her dog to death with a kitchen knife.

“This is one of the most brutal cases I have reviewed in my many years as Prosecutor, and we fully intend to hold the defendant accountable for his actions under the law, in a court of law, based on the evidence.”

Edenburn will be arraigned on the charges and a court hearing will be scheduled in 67th District Court.
