National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day to be held Saturday, October 25

Genesee County Michigan – Saturday, October 25, 2025, the U.S Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Genesee County Prevention Coalition (GCPC) encourage all Genesee County residents to clear out their medicine cabinets and dispose of their unused prescription medications at one of the drop box locations listed below. Properly disposing of prescription medications has shown to be an effective strategy to prevent misuse and reduce access to non-medical use of prescription and over-the counter medications.

Mott Community College Public Safety located at 1401 E. Court St. Flint, MI 48503 at the Public Safety Building will be hosting the Genesee County Prevention Coalition’s Take Back Day Event from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. The Mott Public Safety Building is located at Gorman Drive and Presidential Drive on Mott’s campus. This is the only location accepting liquid medications, patches, and needles/sharps. Disposal services are free, anonymous, and no questions asked. In addition, community health/wellness agencies will also be present to share information and resources for substance use prevention, treatment and recovery support services.  There will also be free Naloxone and Fentanyl test strip distribution and training to learn how to respond to an opioid overdose.

Additional Genesee County locations accepting ONLY pill or capsule medications on Saturday, October 25

  • Burton Police Department: 4090 Manor Dr, Burton, MI 48519
  • City of Davison Police Department: 199 E Flint St, Davison, MI 48423
  • Genesee County Sheriff’s Dept. (Inside Lobby): 1002 Saginaw St, Flint, MI 48502
  • Grand Blanc Township Police Department: 5405 S Saginaw St, Flint, MI 48507
  • Flint Township Police Department: 5200 Norko Dr, Flint, MI 48507

In October 2024 Genesee County law enforcement departments collected 1,041lbs. of medications that were safely discarded. This initiative ensures that medications at risk for diversion, misuse and abuse were removed from the home. Many medications are highly addictive, and if left in unlocked cabinets, are susceptible to diversion or non-medical use and overdose.

If you can’t make it out on DEA’s National Prescription Drug, Take Back Day, there are many other locations in Genesee County that accept safe disposal of prescription medications (pills) all year long. To find a location near you, visit https://michigan-open.org/safe-opioid-disposal/disposal-map/
