Midwest Invitational Rodeo returns to Genesee County

(Flint, Mich., 06/04/26) – Giddy up! The Midwest Invitational Rodeo is coming to the Everett A. Cummings Center on June 12 and 13. In its third year in Genesee County, the rodeo expects a strong turnout, making a significant economic impact on the region.

“We are more than excited to welcome back the Midwest Invitational Rodeo and are happy to see this event activate multiple locations throughout the county,” says Amari Steward, executive director of Explore Flint & Genesee, the county’s convention & visitors bureau, supported by the Genesee County Board of Commissioners.

Steward added: “This year’s event is going to be bigger and better and will showcase not only the uniqueness of Black cowboy and cowgirl culture, but the uniqueness of Flint & Genesee.”

The event is estimated to generate more than half a million dollars for the region’s economy and provide jobs to over 160 people, according to the most recent data from Explore Flint & Genesee’s economic impact calculator. This is important because every dollar spent in a community through tourism turns over three times, creating an even bigger impact.

“For a third year, we are excited to bring this culture to Flint,” said Nicole Scott, organizer of the Midwest Invitational Rodeo.

Scott added: “We have had a successful turnout each year and love to see this event grow with support from the community.”

Returning to the Flint area in its third year, the rodeo is a spectacular event featuring steer wrestling, tie down roping, ranch bronc riding, ladies barrel racing, relay races, ladies steer undecorating and bull riding.

Outside of the two-day event at the Genesee County Fairgrounds, the rodeo hosts several events leading up to the weekend, such as Bikes, Books, & Bourbon on June 11, Coalition of Black Trade Unionists Region 7 Golf Outing on June 12 and The Wild West 5k on June 13.

The event is supported by the Genesee County Board of Commissioners, the presenting sponsor, through the accommodation fund balance, funded by the accommodations tax, which is revenue generated by overnight visitors staying in local hotels.

“The Midwest Invitational Rodeo brings excitement to Genesee County in a truly unique way,” said Dale K. Weighill, chairman of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners.

Weighill added: “As presenting sponsor, we are proud to support an event that celebrates the spirit of rodeo while welcoming visitors from across the region to be a part of our rich history of sports and recreation. We look forward to seeing this event become a springtime tradition in Genesee County for years to come.”
