FLINT – Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said Michael Christopher Butler of Mt. Morris Township has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2022 murder of his 16-month-old son

Last month, a Genesee County jury convicted Butler, 41, of felony murder, first degree child abuse, concealing the death of an individual and aggravated domestic violence.

This morning, on March 18, 2024, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on the felony murder charge.

According to testimony at trial and the police investigation, on August 25, 2022, a woman saw a man later identified as Butler get out of his vehicle on Dodge Road and place something in the ditch across from her residence. The woman walked across the street to see what had been placed there and discovered a blue blanket with a skull sticking out. The woman then called 9-1-1 and responding authorities discovered a small body wrapped inside the blanket, which was later identified as Butler’s son, Chaos.

It is believed that Chaos had been dead for several weeks when his body was discovered.

An autopsy revealed Chaos had suffered skull fractures that likely occurred around the time of his death, other fractures to his skull and ribs that had healed, and methamphetamine and cannabis in his system.

“This was a tragic and sad case and this morning’s sentence is a just conclusion under the law for the actions of Michael Butler,” said Leyton.
