MCC to host Public Safety new blanket & sock drive

(FLINT, Mich., Oct. 16, 2024) — The Mott Community College (MCC) Department of Public Safety is hosting a New Blanket & Sock drive for unhoused and endangered children and adults, the first week in November, as part of the department’s commitment to community policing.

New blankets and socks can be dropped off on Monday, Nov. 4, and Thursday, Nov. 7, from 12 – 4 p.m. in parking Lot B on the main campus, in Flint. Lot B is located east of the Prahl College Center at the corner of Gorman and Prahl Center drives. Police cruisers will be on hand to accept donations. Or, donations can be dropped off at the Public Safety building during regular business hours anytime through Nov. 7.

“It may seem like an odd combination of items to collect,” said Sgt. Roy Villarreal, drive coordinator, “but blankets and socks are important for the unhoused because they help people stay warm and comfortable, especially during the winter for those who sleep outside or in a shelter without adequate bedding.”

Villarreal added: “Socks are also one of the most requested items from homeless people, but few people donate them.”

For more information, call the MCC Public Safety department at 810-762-0222.
