(FLINT, Mich., Oct. 19, 2021) – Mott Community College, (MCC) is part of the six-college Michigan Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (MI-LSAMP) group that will receive a new $3 million National Science Foundation grant aimed at increasing equity and broadening participation in STEM.

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP), named in honor of former congressman Louis Stokes, is a NSF-funded program intended to support historically underrepresented students in the STEM fields. The statewide alliance comprises six educational institutions who previously collaborated during phase 3 of the MI-LSAMP. The institutions include the lead institution of University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) along with Michigan State University, Wayne State University, Western Michigan University, Mott Community College and Washtenaw Community College.

The MI-LSAMP has previously served and will continue to serve as a learning community to increase retention, graduation and success among traditionally underrepresented minority students by expanding opportunities in STEM. The focus of this new phase is to create and study new research-driven models related to increased participation and success for underrepresented students.

Mott Community College is a place of purpose and possibility. Mott is committed to excellence in education and offering services that cultivate student success and improve the overall quality of life in a multicultural community. With almost 100 academic and occupational degree programs, Mott helps students prepare for an ever-changing world. Through university transfer agreements, high-demand associate’s degree programs and one-year certification programs, Mott helps ensure that all students find their path. Mott is changing lives for a changing world every day, by moving forward, together.
