MCC Department of Public Safety receives MLEAC accreditation

(FLINT, Mich., Feb. 7, 2025) – Mott Community College Department of Public Safety on Feb. 4 received their second re-accreditation from the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC) effective March 1, 2025, for a period of three years.

The MLEAC, which consists of commissioners from law enforcement and other professions, oversees the accreditation process with support services provided by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP). It is a state accreditation program.

MLEAC accreditation aids law enforcement agencies in evaluating and enhancing their overall level of service performance. The foundation of MLEAC accreditation lies in the voluntary adoption of standards that ensure the achievement of professional objectives. The accreditation process consists of a thorough self-analysis in which the department conducted a thorough review of its written directives then identified existing operations and adopted additional procedures to align with the accreditation standards and its professional objectives.

“Accreditation is a progressive and time-proven way of assisting law enforcement agencies to assess and improve their overall performance,” said Chief Jamie Zecman, MCC Executive Director of Public Safety.

Zecman added: “We went before the hearing board on February 4 and received many compliments about our agency. I’m grateful to work at an institution that prioritizes public safety, community engagement and is so supportive of this important initiative.”

Shaunda Richardson-Snell, MCC Interim President, responded, “This is a highly sought accomplishment and a real source of pride for Mott Community College and its officers. This achievement demonstrates the Department’s dedication to the highest levels of professionalism and excellence, and I applaud Chief Zecman and her team for continuing to meet the rigorous accreditation standards.”

In February 2019, MCC Public Safety became the first community college police agency in Michigan to attain full accreditation status.
