Mayor Sheldon Neeley Urges Immediate Release of Flint Water Settlement Funds

FLINT, MI — Mayor Sheldon A. Neeley has sent a formal letter to Special Master Deborah  Greenspan, the court-appointed administrator of the Flint Water Crisis Settlementurging the immediate release of settlement payments to Flint residents who have waited far too long for justice and relief.
More than a decade after the initial crisis, many Flint families continue to await the compensation they were promised. Mayor Neeley is calling on the court to expedite the payment process and eliminate unnecessary administrative hurdles to ensure that residents and their families receive their rightful settlement funds without further delay.
Mayor Neeley expressed appreciation for the hard work of the court and its administrators throughout this process and stated that he remains prayerful for a just and fair conclusion to the settlement.

    Dear Special Master Greenspan,
    I write to you today on behalf of the residents of Flint, Michigan who have waited far too
    long for the justice and restitution they were promised. The Flint Water Crisis was not
    only a public health emergency but also a catastrophic breach of trust that inflicted
    lasting harm on our community.
    The settlement secured for our residents was meant to be a step toward healing and
    accountability. Unfortunately, the continued delays in distributing these funds have only
    served to reopen old wounds and prolong the hardship.
    Flint families are still grappling with the devastating effects of lead exposureongoing
    health challenges, overwhelming medical expenses, and emotional distress that no
    amount of money can erase. Yet these funds represent a vital step toward recovery.
    Each additional delay deepens frustration and financial strain for those who have
    already endured more than anyone should.
    I urge your office to act with the urgency and compassion that this situation demands.
    Please take all necessary steps to expedite the settlement payment process. Streamline
    any remaining administrative procedures, provide clear and regular updates to the
    public, and ensure that all eligible residents receive the compensation they are owed as
    swiftly as possible.
    The people of Flint are resilient. They want to move forwardto rebuild, to heal, and to turn the page. The sooner these settlement payments are delivered, the sooner that healing process can truly begin.
