Local nonprofit celebrating grand opening in new headquarters and event center Saturday

Flint, Michigan-  – Sisters Supporting Sisters, a 501C3 nonprofit, is having a ribbon cutting and grand opening September 17 of its new headquarters and event center, located in the Genesee Valley Mall, 3193 S. Linden Rd.

The grand opening event, from 2 -7 p.m., will be held at the Genesee Valley Mall in Flint Township, the Sears entrance. The event will include a ribbon cutting at 3 p.m., and throughout 30- 40 local small business vendors and the nonprofit’s founders will present on the organization’s work and vision. There will be a special message from Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Mayor Sheldon Neeley. Other special guests and dignitaries will also be in attendance.

The Impact – What Sisters Supporting Sisters does

Over 1,000 businesses and services – The overwhelming response to the platform made it apparent that there is a huge gap in accessing necessary services for women to sustain health and financially support their families. The Sisters Supporting Sisters (SSS) social media platform closes the gap by giving over 23,000 active members access to available family resources and services; providing a safe environment for women entrepreneurs to network, showcase and grow their business; and a physical space, newly acquired business center, where SSS and their partners host events and workshops together to improve the health and financial stability of women and families. SSS’s first program, funded through Flint ReCast has allowed them to provide “Healing the Mind” group therapy sessions for women and teens where they’ve reached 60 individuals who may not have access to mental health care.

Media and the community are welcome to attend. No registration for attendance is required. Vendors must contact event organizers in advance. Contact Tanisha Thompson at (810) 746-4082 or go online sisterworldwide.org to be a vendor or for more information.
