Local non-profit to host The GatHERing: A Place For All Women

Community event to include panel and group discussions aiming to expand women’s circles

Flint, MI – Communities First, Inc., a local nonprofit, invites women from across Genesee County to attend an event focused on expanding their circle through connection and collaboration during Women’s History Month. The GatHERing: A Place For All Women will occur on Saturday, March 16, at the Communities First, Inc. office space, located at 1110 W. Bristol Road, in Flint, MI, 48507 (the previous Baker College campus). The event is from 11a.m. –2:30 p.m.

The goal of the GatHERing is to bring together diverse women from Flint and Genesee County to learn from one another and build relationships.

“I love the idea of celebrating women because we can,” says Artina Carter, a member of the GatHERing planning committee and active community member.

The event will include a panel discussion with local women leaders, guided breakout groups, activities and a catered lunch for the women attendees.

“I’m excited to come together to celebrate the incredible women in our community,” says Traci Kim, a member of the planning committee and longtime Communities First, Inc. volunteer.

Kim added: “I’ve experienced the strength in our diversity and know we can accomplish anything when we lift
each other up!”

The GatHERing will explore the barriers from women’s shared past that have kept them apart, present struggles to cultivating connections and future opportunities to develop powerful relationships with other women in the community. The intention of the event is to develop relationships among women that can transform lives and effect change. The committee encourages attendees to be prepared to discuss difficult topics like race, status, religion and more.

“Opportunities for women to connect like this are lacking,” says Essence Wilson, Chief Strategy
Officer of Communities First, Inc.

Wilson added: “Communities First is excited to offer this channel of connection and discussion, which will build and empower our community of women.”

Space is limited, and registration is required at: tinyurl.com/CFITheGatHERing. To ensure access
for all women, the recommended ticket prices are $10 and there is a pay what you can option.
