FLINT — Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said a jury has returned a guilty verdict on
all counts in a 2019 triple slaying that left three teenagers dead.
Quatrail Smith, 30, was convicted on all ten counts he faced including three counts of first
degree premeditated murder, four counts of felony firearm, and one count each of felon in
possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
According to testimony at trial, just before 7:00 PM on September 20, 2019, officers from the City of Flint Police Department, Michigan State Police, and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a house on Illinois Avenue in response to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police discovered the bodies of three deceased individuals. One body was found in the backyard, another on steps leading to the back door of the house and a third was found in a bedroom inside the house. The three deceased ranged in age from 16 to 18. The police investigation led detectives to zero in on several suspects including Quatrail Smith
and they were arrested and taken into custody the next day, September 20.

Further investigation including a search warrant executed on Smith’s house provided crucial
evidence tying him to the three homicides.
“This is yet another tragic incident where gun violence in our community cut short the lives of
three young men and will put another in prison for the rest of his life,” said Prosecutor Leyton.
Smith stands to face life in prison without the possibility of parole when he is sentenced on May
16.
