Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley ordered the flags at Flint City Hall raised back to full staff in honor of Veterans Day today; Nov. 11, 2020.
“Today is a day dedicated to the celebration of all our veterans,” Neely said. “It is with great honor that I thank all veterans for their service and recognize their willingness to serve our country at all cost. To all those who have served and all those who continue to serve, I thank you.”
Neely noted the flags at Flint City Hall had been lowered to remember all those who have been impacted by COVID-19 — which remains an ongoing threat in our community, state, and country.
This will be the first time the current flag has been flown at full staff since area veterans installed it at Flint City Hall on Oct. 15, 2020.
After noticing the previous flag becoming tattered, Neeley asked area veterans, including a group from UAW Local 598 to help retire the old flag and raise a new one. The flag was briefly raised to full staff and then lowered to half-staff, per flag protocol, until being raised for Veterans Day.
