Healthcare begins with warmth

Over one hundred blankets to be given to Flint’s warming centers

FLINT, MICH. (Dec. 12, 2024): Recognizing the challenges for our homeless community members during the cold Michigan winter, Hamilton Community Health Network staff members wanted to help those they serve. Knowing that healthcare begins with the basics, such as warmth, the team rallied up as many new blankets they could find.

Hamilton was proud to partner with Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, Word of Life Christian Church and Vernon Chapel. In the end, over 100 blankets were collected for the warming centers led by  Catholic Charities Center for Hope.

“This project has been a meaningful way to support our valued partners at Catholic Charities,” explained Clarence Pierce, CEO of Hamilton Community Health Network.

Pierce added: ‘With our homeless clinic, Hamilton-Flint, on the second floor of Center for Hope, we witness the wonderful work Catholic Charities does in our community. The blankets help make a difference during these cold winter months.”

All blankets will be delivered by the Hamilton leadership team to the Center for Hope at 812 East Root Street, Flint. Delivery is scheduled for 12 p.m., Monday, December 16. The blankets will then be distributed by Catholic Charities to those who visit their warming centers this winter.

“We are always grateful and humbled for the compassion of our community when we work together,” expressed Katie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties.

Baxter added: “These blankets are not just comforting layers; they are safety, warmth and the spirit of generosity. This is how to make an impact on our community.”

The warming centers opened December 1, 2024, and will continue to provide a refuge for those seeking warmth until March 31, 2025. Women and children will find shelter at the North End Soup Kitchen’s Safe Haven, while Center for Hope will accommodate men during the night.

Hamilton-Flint Clinic is located on the second floor of the Center for Hope, to serve the homeless community Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Healthcare appointments can be scheduled to access primary care, behavioral health and substance use treatment.
