GRAMMY-Nominated Gospel Singer Jekalyn Carr Gives Free Concert to Spread Hope in Flint

Grammy-nominated, Stellar Award winner and urban contemporary gospel artist Jekalyn Carr will give a message of courage, triumph and determination during a free concert and community conversation, titled Greater is Coming. As part of the Illuminating Community Change Project (IC2), Hamilton Community Health Network (HCHN) partners with WOW Outreach, Church Without Walls and the North Flint Neighborhood Action Council (NF NAC) for a night of hope, healing and restoration.

Greater is Coming is titled after Carr’s first album, released in 2013 at the age of 15. At this event, now 21-year-old Carr will deliver messages through songs, such as her third album’s leading single, “You’re Bigger”. According to Carr’s website, this single “is a declarative proclamation of faith that is sure to impact lives of all who hear it.” Greater is Coming is designed to establish a deeper connection with youth and families who are impacted by violence in their neighborhoods and the Flint Water Crisis. Through praise and worship, Carr will deliver an uplifting message highlighting hope, as Flint begins to heal from issues that have plagued the neighborhoods that residents call home.

The event is Friday, Nov. 16 at the Northbank Center, 432 N. Saginaw Street, Flint, MI 48502. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. and the event starts at 6 p.m. There is free parking in the Northbank Center Parking Garage.

In addition to a free concert, residents will take part in conversations surrounding public safety, violence, and how they can be part of the solution. There will be on-site community resources and information for residents as they continue their healing process.

The free concert and community conversation is the beginning work of a $1 million crime and safety grant. HCHN received the grant in 2017 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, part of the U.S. Department of Justice. NF NAC is a leading partner of this effort, known as IC2.
