Genesee ISD and GCCCAN to Hold College 101 Virtual Event

WHAT: College 101 – What You Need to Know (Virtual Event)
WHO: Genesee Intermediate School District &
Genesee County Career and College Access Network
WHEN: from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2021

The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is partnering with the Genesee County Career and College Access Network (GCCCAN) once again to host another enlightening event to benefit local high school students. College 101 – What You Need to Know is a virtual event planned for area teens and their families to get information from professionals and hear personal experiences about going from high school to college and how to make it a successful transition.

A student panel along with representatives from the University of Michigan – Flint, Kettering University, Mott Community College and Baker College will all be part of the discussion to provide information and a variety of perspectives. Topics on the agenda include finding a school-life balance, types of courses to take and making the most of campus resources. There will also be a question and answer session including current college students and recent graduates.

“Continuing your education can and should be a wonderful experience,” stated Patti Yorks,
Coordinator for GCCCAN.

However, we find that many students have a lot of questions about college, and it can be overwhelming,” Yorks added. “To help with that, we decided to get a group of professionals and students who are living the college life now together to talk about the experience, the dos and don’ts and just anything the students want to know. We want to set our students up for success and helping them be more informed and aware of the resources available to them is one way we can do that.”

The College 101 – What You Need to Know event will be held via Zoom on from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2021.
There is no cost to participate, but registration is required. To register for the
