Genesee Health Plan now offering virtual appointments to help residents enroll in health care coverage

Genesee Health Plan (GHP) recently announced it is providing virtual appointments to help residents in Genesee, Saginaw and Bay counties enroll in health care coverage. GHP will continue to offer over-the-phone assistance as its physical office remains closed to the public due to COVID-19.

GHP provides basic health care coverage for adults in Genesee County who don’t receive health insurance from their employer, or those who have been laid off, lost their job or don’t otherwise qualify for Medicaid. Using the virtual platform, individuals can now enroll or re-enroll into a variety of health care programs, including Genesee Health Plan.

“Genesee Health Plan’s priority is to make sure people get the health coverage they need and have access to essential services,” said GHP President and CEO Jim Milanowski.

“Now more than ever, GHP’s health care enrollment services are needed to help those in our community access coverage amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” Milanowski added. “With our ability to provide virtual appointments, we can continue to provide the same friendly, one-on-one experience our clients were accustomed to before COVID-19.”

While open enrollment in Genesee Health Plan is always open, HealthCare.Gov Marketplace open enrollment is closed until November 2021. GHP can continue to enroll uninsured residents in Genesee, Saginaw and Bay counties if they have experienced job loss, married, divorced, are moving or other qualified event. GHP also can enroll American Indian or Alaskan Native residents year-round. In addition, GHP can help enroll qualified individuals into Medicaid; a health care program for low-income families and individuals.

“We want to make sure the communities we serve know we are still available to help with a variety of services by phone and virtually,” said GHP Director of Operations Linda Gibson.

“We are grateful to be able to continue our work in order to protect the health and safety of our staff and community members,” Gibson added.

GHP is able to offer these enrollment services into the HealthCare.Gov Marketplace with the support of its second federal Navigator Cooperative Agreement Award from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which it was awarded last September.

Genesee, Saginaw and Bay County residents, including those who have been laid off or have recently lost their job due to COVID-19 and do not currently have health care coverage, can call GHP toll-free at 844-232-7740 or locally at 810-232-7740, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and ask for an enrollment specialist for details to schedule a virtual appointment.
