Genesee District Library’s 21st Annual Black History Month Brunch being replaced with televised program

Flint, Michigan – The Genesee District Library, in partnership with WJRT ABC12, will present a televised special for the 21st Annual Black History Month Awards Celebration at 7:30 p.m on Thursday, February 24.

This televised special takes the place of the annual in-person brunch, which was scheduled for February 12 at the Genesys Conference & Banquet Center, in Grand Blanc. That in-person event was changed to a virtual event due to the recent surge of COVID-19. Refund checks were mailed for all ticket purchases.

ABC12 Anchor Matt Franklin will emcee the televised program.  Genesee District Library will recognize three individuals with the Award of Excellence for their achievements, contributions and service. The honorees include Ms. April Cook-Hawkins, Ms. Danielle Green and Ms. Lisa Horne. The Partner in Progress award will be given to the Sarvis Park Neighborhood Association, founded and led by Dr. Ladel Lewis.

The 21st Annual Black History Month Awards Celebration is sponsored by Brown & Brown Insurance, Community Foundation of Greater Flint, Flint Public Library, Genesee Health System, Lewis & Knopf, PC, Mott Community College, Simen, Figura & Parker, P.L.C. and Superior Furs & Leather.

The program will feature entertainment by Four Washington, a singing group of four siblings from Jackson, Mississippi.  Four Washington is a social media sensation that was featured on the Steve Show with Steve Harvey.
