December 10, 2025 – Flint, Michigan – The Genesee District Library (GDL) has announced honorees for the 25th Annual Black History Month Brunch to be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 10 a.m., at the Genesys Conference & Banquet Center, in Grand Blanc.
Each year, the GDL honors people and an organization making a difference in the community. The Award of Excellence will be presented to Dr. Kenyetta Dotson, for tackling issues of fairness, equality, social justice, violence prevention and longevity for local youth and families.

Ms. Carrie Edwards-Clemons will be honored for her roles in firefighting, training, code enforcement, community education, enhancing public safety and civic well-being.

Additionally, Ms. Sandra Epps will be honored for her leadership in education, weaving together family services, cultural understanding and student well-being.

The Partner in Progress Award will go to The Flint Area (MI) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, led by Ms. Karen Pugh, President, for work in maintaining unity in the family, community, and nation through programming, values, and community partnerships.
The event will feature a keynote speech by renowned rock/blues musician, conflict navigator, unifier, and author Daryl Davis, and a performance by pianist Roger Jones and vocalist Tiffany Gridiron. As one of Genesee County’s premier events, the brunch draws nearly 500 attendees each year.
The event is sponsored by WJRT ABC12, Genesee Health System, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, the Genesee District Library Foundation, Hamilton Community Health Network and Michigan State University Extension. ABC12 First at Four anchor Dawn Jones will emcee the event.
