Genesee County residents invited to enjoy art, culture and celebrate the season at Holiday Walk 

Genesee County Arts Education & Cultural Enrichment Millage supports the institutions that make the Holiday Walk a beloved annual tradition  

Flint, Mich. – Genesee County will be overflowing with holiday cheer, arts and cultural attractions at the 40th annual Holiday Walk at the Flint Cultural Center campus.

The event will feature food trucks, carolers, ice sculptures, holiday lights, hot cider and reindeer to mark the start of the festive season from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2.

The tree lighting is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. at Durant Plaza between Sloan Museum of Discovery and FIM Whiting Auditorium and will include appearances by Mr. and Mrs. Claus, Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley and Greater Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame basketball star Ervin Leavy Jr. The Arrowhead Barbershop Harmony Society will perform live holiday music.

That’s not all! Special events are planned across the Flint Cultural Center campus, including:

  • Longway Planetarium will offer free sample showings of Cosmic Christmas from 5:30-8 p.m., with first-come, first-served tickets available beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the tent on Kearsley Street.
  • The FIM Elgood Theatre will showcase a musical cabaret of old and new holiday classics performed by Flint Repertory Theatre artists with shows throughout the evening.
  • The Flint Institute of Arts will open its museum galleries and offer glass blowing demonstrations until 7 p.m.
  • The Gloria Coles Flint Public Library will host children’s crafts plus special performances by the Carman-Ainsworth High School String Orchestra and tap dancers from Tapology.
  • The Whaley Historical House will offer performances by the Wandering Lantern Carolers, open tours and holiday crafts.
  • The FIM Dort Music Center will host performances by the Flint School of Performing Arts (FSPA) Ensembles in the Atrium, the Flint Youth Theatre Improv Squad, and the FSPA Piano Trio in MacArthur Recital Hall. Visitors can also take photos with the FSPA Dancers in the giant Nutcracker Rocking Chair.
  • The Flint Cultural Center Academy will host a Maker’s Fair, and the FIM Whiting Auditorium will offer free photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus and live performances from a Mariachi band.
  • The Sloan Museum of Discovery will host performances of the FSPA Adult Flute Ensemble and will offer the once-a-year opportunity to see their historic car collection with hoods and trunks open.
