Genesee County interns gain more than job experience with the Flinterns program

(Flint, Mich., 06/26/2025) – This week, Flinterns, a program facilitated by Flint & Genesee Education & Talent – a division of the Flint & Genesee Group – kicked off with a new cohort of 89 interns. During the day-long excursion, students participated in team-building activities, professional development sessions, panel discussions, and excursions around the area.

“Through the Flinterns program, we are working to create a rounded internship experience that not every employer has the capacity to offer,” says Brianna Mosier, executive director of Flint & Genesee Education & Talent. “Not only does this make sure the students have a fun and rewarding experience, but it also shows off our wonderful community from our local professional networks to the activities and things to do in the area, showing students that Flint & Genesee is a great place to land after college.”

After the kick-off day, participating interns will have the opportunity to participate in the Flint & Genesee Young Professionals, professional development opportunities, and other experiential outings.

Providing students with these experiences works in tandem to support Flint & Genesee employers and help move the community toward its Forward Together vision of becoming a top-five community in Michigan, based on jobs, talent, livability, and equity by 2040. After participating in the Flinterns program, seven students have stayed in or relocated to Genesee County.

Seven out of 10 employers offer on-site interns full-time positions after their internships, as reported by the HR benefits database ShortLister. The Flinterns program aims to help bolster that retention rate and keep students in Flint & Genesee.
