Three free informational workshops are intended to give community members information to help them be able to make informed decisions when voting in local elections ahead of  the November 5, 2024 general election. The workshops will take place over the next few months and are hosted by The Flint Area League of Women Voters, in partnership with Mott Community College’s (MCC) Black Professional Alliance and the Enlighten and Ignite Committee.

From 6-7:30 p.m., on Thursday, August 15, a workshop will be held on the Role and Expectations of the Board of Trustees. Anthony F. Alexander Sr. – board chair of the Foundation for MCC, Dr. Lisa Novak – professor of accounting and business and Lapeer Community Schools board treasurer and Robert Duncan – trustee for Lansing Community College are scheduled to serve as panelists for the event.

Additionally, a workshop on The Importance of Voting in Local Elections will take place on Sept. 18, and a Meet and Greet with Board of Trustee Candidates takes place Oct. 24.

On August 8, Mott Community College Trustee Art Reyes became the fourth trustee to face recall efforts for his votes in relation to the hiring of an interim president.

On August 1, recall language was approved for trustees Wendy Wolcott, Janet Couch and John Daly.

In addition to national and statewide voting, Genesee County residents will be able to vote for no more than three Mott Community College Board of Trustees Members in the general election, as well as being able to vote in other races impacting the local community.
