Four MCC Students Recognized at 2015 ADDY Awards
Four Mott Community College Graphic Design students were recognized by the American Advertising Federation of Greater Flint (AAF-Greater Flint) during its annual American Advertising Awards (ADDY Awards) event Feb. 20, 2015 at the Flint Farmer’s Market.
Katie McWhorter’s comic book superhero design concept was chosen as this year’s theme. Additionally, McWhorter, of Holly, won an AAF Gold Award Award for work from Art 246 Self-Promo Design and a Silver Award for work from Art 105 Design Center Studio. She also was awarded an AAF Student Scholarship. It is her second year receiving the student scholarship award.
Jeremy Eads, of Clio, earned the coveted top award of Student Best of Show, for work from Art 259 Conceptual Book Design. He also won a Gold Award for this work. Justin O'Brien, of Burton, took a Gold Award for work from Art 242-Corporate ID, and Taylor Decker, of Davison, earned a Silver Award for work also from Art 242-Corporate ID.
“I am so proud of our students,” said Dr. Mara Fulmer, professor of Graphic Design at MCC. “The students, enrolled in Design Center|Studio 205, worked with the AAF-Greater Flint throughout the fall and winter semesters to design this year’s American Advertising Awards event with their professors James Shurter and Katie Krcmarik. They were responsible for the Super Hero themed graphics for everything from the invitations to the banners and table graphics with Katie McWhorter as lead designer,” she said.
