At 1:45 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, police found Ladonna Renee Cummings had been shot.
Cummings, a 50-year-old Black female, was found at 1920 Canniff Street, in Flint.
Cummings was transported to Hurley Medical Center.
“It could be obvious death,” said Green. “But it was fresh, and they tried to revive her to give her every opportunity to live.”
At Hurley, the victim was pronounced dead.
A jury found Cummings guilty of first-degree murder in 2005. She received the mandatory sentence of life in prison with no chance for parole.
In 2022, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer reviewed the case , She found out Cummings was a victim of domestic abuse by the murder victim. Whitmer commuted the Cumming’s sentence for Cummings so she did not have to remain incarcerated.
There were no suspects as of publication time.
According to Green, shootings are down since 2021, although he had not received the latest statistics for 2023 yet.
“We had three fatalities since Christmas Eve. With me being the chief of police, I’ve not concerned with a holiday. Any fatal shooting bothers me and is concerning any time of the year. Gun violence bothers me and is concerning.”
