The Genesee County Election Commission made important decisions at a meeting held on Tuesday, November 19.

A recent recall petition for 8th Ward Councilman Dennis Pfieffer has now been approved by the commission. The petition language was previously denied, but was approved after it was reworked and refiled.

8th Ward Resident Lisa Pasbjerg, who  filed the petition on November 7, is now be able to collect signatures for the petition. The petition said Pfeiffer was “censured for conduct unbecoming a city councilmember.”

Pfeiffer has up to 10 days to challenge the recall petition’s approval in the Circuit Court.

Otherwise, the recall will go to election for area residents to vote on if enough signatures are collected within 180 days. Once signature collection has begun, Pasbjerg has and 60 days to get all of the signatures needed.

At the same meeting, the  commission denied all seven recall language petitions against Mayor Sheldon Neeley, stating lack of clarity. One petition stated Neeley  received a check for $2,100 from the developer for the Buick City industrial complex.
