Christel Drew, principal of Madison Academy charter school, enjoys watching the Best Man Holiday each and every year to kick off the holiday festivities with her family. However this Christmas may look different with COVID-19 still being active around the world. So far there have been nearly 15,000 Coronavirus cases reported in Genesee county. That means certain holiday traditions are not canceled but have been modified for families all over.

Drew, who normally hosts all of the family favorite holidays from Easter to Thanksgiving at her home, has had to postpone her events with an estimated guest list of 60 people due to COVID-19 restrictions. Like many Americans all over, she has come up with unique ways to keep the spirit alive by connecting virtually through apps like Zoom.

Drew invited family and friends to jump on Zoom for games and fellowship this year, which was very exciting to her.

Being at home has been a challenge for Drew, who is a principal, real Estate agent and full time mom and wife! Needless to say, she is always on her feet. Staying productive is key during these times, and the Drew family is sticking it out together.

“We’ve been doing vision board making, reading and cooking,” Drew said “My family is my biggest support system. They have my back.”

Support systems are needed more than ever during times like these, according to Drew. Her best Christmas gift thus far has been having her daughter Cara, who is studying at Michigan State, at home since the start of the pandemic.

2021 is right around the corner that is filled with blessings for all of us.

“I look forward to the new year for growth, evolution and transforming into the woman God says I am”.

2020 has played a huge role in all our lives that will impact us forever. It allowed us to love each other and recognize that we all are in this fight together.

“I can take my mornings back now to keep that daily routine balanced. Persistence posturing is pertinent to receiving the promise. Make sure that you are properly positioned to receive the promise. God is faithful.”
