COVID-19 case linked to Genesee County area funeral service

The Genesee County Health Department has confirmed at least one positive COVID-19 case
with potential exposure to others on October 30 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000
Silver Lake Road, Fenton. The visitation and funeral service took place from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The Genesee County Health Department’s communicable disease team is conducting a full
case investigation and contact tracing for the confirmed case, as well as reaching out to attendees
of the event for potential cases. The identified confirmed positive individual has been instructed to
self-isolate until cleared by public health in accordance with CDC guidance.

Attendees of the visitation and/or service are encouraged to call their local health
departments to report any illness, notify their contacts, get tested by a healthcare provider
as soon as possible and self-quarantine at home as directed through November 13. See
www.gchd.us/coronavirus for testing sites and quarantine instructions.

On October 29, The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services renewed a set of
orders regarding COVID-19 mitigation (for more information, please visit
https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/).

The Genesee County Health Department reminds businesses and the public of the importance of following all public health orders, social distancing, wearing masks, proper hand washing, not going to events with large crowds and staying home when ill.

If you begin to have symptoms resembling those of COVID-19 or believe that you may
have been exposed, it is recommended that you seek out a COVID-19 PCR Test. To find a testing
site near you, please visit https://gchd.us/covid19testing/.
