August 24, 2024 – City Councilwoman Candice Mushatt joined Rev. Dr. Que English, U.S Department of Health and Human Services, for the latest stop of the M.O.M.S. Tour (Maternal Outcomes Matters Shower) in Flint, Michigan, where nearly 400 people gathered at Cathedral of Faith, Bishop Dr. Christopher E. Martin, Sr., Senior Pastor.  The event brought together mental health professionals, birth workers, medical experts, maternal health organizations, and community members to offer crucial resources and support to women and families at risk. Attendees heard from a panel of experts who provided valuable insights on advocating for themselves in healthcare settings, accessing support through doula and midwifery services, recognizing signs of postpartum depression and more.
“We want to thank M.O.M.S. Tour for coming to Flint and connecting these pregnant and postpartum women and families to much needed resources and education in an effort to improve maternal health outcomes right here in our city,” said Councilwoman Mushatt. “I particularly want to thank them for emphasizing the importance of providing space for dads and dads-to-be as oftentimes they are omitted from the conversation.”
Councilwoman Candice Mushatt helped to distribute giveaways of diapers, breast pumps, strollers, etc. to the moms and dads in attendance at the MOMS Tour in Flint, MI.
“This tour was created to support the Administration’s White House Blueprint for Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis which was championed by our very own Vice President Kamala Harris,” said Rev. Dr. Que English, Director, HHS Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships.
English added: “At the Department of Health and Human Services, we aim to see the U.S. become one of the safest places for women to give birth.”
