Community partners are coming together to help students reach sustainability

Flint, Michigan –The School That Works is a high school diploma program that prepares students to pursue meaningful careers through a blending of character formation, life skills and work experiences.

“We can’t wait to begin this partnership with Gear Up Academy’s The School that Works” said GST MI Works! CEO Jody Kerbyson. “We are excited to be able to incorporate our Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates program to their already successful alternative high school and change the lives of many students by creating solid career paths that will dramatically increase their earning potential.”

The School That Works is a unique school offered through the Fenton Area Public Schools District, for students between the ages of 16 – 21. Youth living in Genesee County are welcome to enroll. Enrollment has begun, classes begin September 20th and open enrollment ends October 4th. Students will be able to take advantage of the following:

• Guidance from a GST MI Works! career counselor
• Funding to support post-secondary education
• Resources to mitigate barriers
• Free public-school program
• High school classes are online and self-paced
• Apprenticeship readiness program
• Assistance with landing a job (getting paid on average $17 per hour)
• A workplace readiness program that works and more
