FLINT, Mich.—On April 3, 2024, at 10 p.m. the City of Flint Sewer Department was notified of an oil spill into the Flint River at the Whaley Park and Dort Hwy. outfalls on the east side of the river.
The City of Flint immediately responded, and Michigan Spill placed booms in three places along the Flint River. These absorbent barriers are collecting the spilled material.
***The Genesee County Health Department recommends no contact with the Flint River at this time, including fishing and recreational activities, from Dort Hwy to Riverbank Park.
The Michigan Department of Environmental, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is working with the City of Flint to investigate the source of the spill. A possible source has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

City of Flint is collecting samples of the spilled contaminant for testing. The volume of the spill is yet to be determined. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
