City of Flint distributing free masks at local churches

On June 26, Mayor Sheldon Neeley announced a new program to distribute free masks to all churches and other places of worship in the city of Flint to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The City of Flint is receiving 100,000 masks as part of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation’s donation of 2 million masks to the Flint community. The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan is the lead organization in the distribution effort and working alongside the city’s targeted efforts to ensure backbone community organizations like the city’s churches are provided the life-saving safety equipment for their staff and worshipers. Small businesses also are eligible to receive the masks through the city.

“Making sure our entire community has access to masks is a continuation of the city of Flint’s proactive response to limit the spread of COVID-19 and save lives,” Neeley said. “As restrictions continue to be lifted, we must be vigilant in protecting ourselves. I urge everyone to mask up in all public places.”

Religious organizations and small businesses located within the City of Flint can request masks by visiting https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScD0dysNpefrr2sbaSWWg2Ust1RSxr9MqDBwEBb_hUK93Rzew/viewform.

Residents and families also can get free masks at any of the city’s Help Centers, which are operated with support from United Way of Genesee County and continue to offer free bottled water to Flint families through a donation from Nestlé Waters. Food distributions also are available at the Help Centers through the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
