City of Flint celebrates Claressa Shields with event Thursday, Oct. 20 at Capitol Theatre

FLINT, Mich.—City of Flint Mayor Sheeldon Neeley is hosting a citywide celebration for Claressa Shields, the new undisputed middleweight boxing champion of the world. This is a free event, with capacity for about 1500 people, first-come, first-served.

The Flint community is invited to an event celebrating Claressa’s achievement:
Date:
 Thursday, October 20
Time: The event is 6-8 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.
Location: The Capitol Theatre, 140 E 2nd St, Flint, MI 48502

Mayor Neeley will host the event, which will include an opportunity to hear from Claressa Shields herself, as well as performances by singer Shawnda Gaines, singer Chelsea Blair, and comedian Cheesestix. Delano Burton Jr. and Domanyce will be emcees for the evening.

“Claressa Shields embodies Flint’s pride,” Neeley said. “She is among the best athletes we’ve ever seen in the City of Flint. We’ll continue to celebrate her success, looking to her sculpture at City Hall and the street named in her honor as inspiration to work hard and dream big.”
