Flint Police Department’s Citizens’ Radio Patrol of Volunteers to Begin Operations Next Week
The City of Flint Police Department’s new Citizens’ Radio Patrol will begin operations involving citizen volunteers next week. The Citizens’ Radio Patrol (CRP) will consist of volunteers who will patrol various parts of the city to alert the Police Department of suspicious and criminal activity as well as any other emergency situations they may encounter.
Flint Police Chief James Tolbert conceived the CRP as an extension of the Blue Badge Volunteer Corps, the umbrella program for all City of Flint related volunteer activities. “Having those extra individuals acting as our eyes and ears with real time reporting capability will enable us to respond to more situations as they arise,” said Chief Tolbert.
Trained volunteers of the CRP met at the Flint Police Department Roll Call room on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 to obtain radio units, reflective decals for vehicles and deployments to their specific areas of operation. All volunteers underwent background checks before being trained in police observation and reporting techniques. Anyone interested in joining the CRP can call Officer Tanya Meeks at 810-237-6926.
