CEO Mom is Driven to Help All Kids Feel Special

Fashion Show for Special Needs Kids, Sunday, Dec. 16

Tracy Palmer has always had a heart for children.  The mother of four balances a busy home life with the demands of Trendsetters Productions, a company she started five years ago.  She travels throughout the Flint area hosting self-esteem building workshops for youth and promoting anti-bullying awareness through fashion shows and other special events. She said it was a show she held this summer that prompted her latest venture to help youth feel special and develop self-confidence.

“One of my friends has an autistic child and she mentioned to me that she wished he could one day participate in a fashion show,” Palmer said.  “We take so much for granted when we can do things on our own without the assistance of others,” she said.

As a mother and CEO, Palmer went into action and reached out to community stakeholders, including Mott Community College and the Autism Support and Resource Center to host a fashion show for special needs children. Palmer’s idea was greeted with great enthusiasm.

“Everyone is excited. There are a lot of positive emotions going on right now. Parents are really excited to see their children walk the runway,” she said.

Trendsetters will host its first fashion show benefiting special needs children on Sunday, Dec. 16 at the MCC Event Center at 4 p.m. Doors open at 3:30 p.m.  Tickets are $10.  Fifty percent of the proceeds from the show will be donated to the Autism Support and Resource Center.  For additional ticket information, visit  https://www.facebook.com/TSPSAB/.

“This fashion show and fundraiser is to raise awareness and funds for special needs kids, to create an opportunity to make them feel special, and to bring the community together once again,” Palmer said.
