FLINT—Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus Congressman Dan Kildee, today applauded $4,615,491 in federal funds coming to mid-Michigan to strengthen public transportation and make urgently-needed upgrades to facilities and vehicles.

Transit systems have suffered from decades of underinvestment, causing delays and disruptions for passengers. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Congressman Kildee supported, represents the largest-ever investment in public transit across Michigan and the country. In total, the mid-Michigan region has been awarded over $4.6 million in this first round of new federal transit funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is creating Michigan jobs by improving our region’s transit systems,” said Kildee. “By upgrading and improving our public transportation, we improve accessibility and reliability and keep Michigan families and seniors connected to the rest of the community. In Congress, I will continue to fight to bring federal resources home to mid-Michigan.”

This first round of transit funding includes:

  • Flexible funding to help mid-Michigan communities make transit safer and more efficient, funding new buses, station repairs and other safety initiatives. This includes:
    • $2,643,781 for Flint
    • $743,325 for Saginaw
    • $565,243 for Bay City
    • $450,727 for Midland
  • $212,415 for Flint to support transit for seniors and persons with disabilities, funding key resources such as wheelchair lifts, mobility management programs and accessible transit vehicles.
