FLINT, Mich. — The Flint Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will host the 29th Annual
Alpha Esquires Recognition Night on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Ascension Genesys
Conference & Banquet Center in Grand Blanc.
The annual event celebrates the accomplishments, leadership, academic success and personal growth of young men participating in the Alpha Esquire Mentoring & Leadership Program. For nearly three decades, the program has mentored young men throughout the Flint community by focusing on leadership development, scholarship, community service, personal accountability and educational excellence.

Each year, Recognition Night serves as an opportunity to honor high school students within the program for their hard work, commitment and achievements both inside and outside the classroom. The evening will feature scholarship presentations, academic excellence recognitions, alumni honors and special awards highlighting students who have demonstrated leadership and growth throughout the year.
Last year’s program included Outstanding Esquire Awards, Academic Excellence Awards, Alumni Awards of Excellence and scholarship acknowledgements recognizing students and supporters connected to the program.
Over the years, the Alpha Esquire Program has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to graduating seniors to support their continued education and future career goals. Organizers say the scholarships are part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Javonte McMillan, general manager of Lazer Spot Logistics and former Alpha Esquire. McMillan’s story reflects perseverance, transformation and the lifelong impact mentorship and brotherhood can have on young men navigating challenges in life.
“Recognition Night is more than just a banquet,” organizers shared. “It’s a celebration of young men striving to become leaders in their schools, homes and communities. We take pride in recognizing their accomplishments while continuing to pour into their future.”
Sam Wells, one of the longtime leaders and mentors connected to the Alpha Esquire Program, said the event continues to shine a light on the positive stories coming out of the Flint community.
“At a time of hopelessness and despair in Flint with the senseless killing of our youth, this event showcases the positive and lets us know all is not lost,” said Wells. “The keynote speaker is a living testament that redemption is real.”

The evening will include dinner, scholarship recognitions, spoken word performances, special
presentations and reflections celebrating the impact of mentorship throughout the Flint
community.
The strolling buffet begins at 6 p.m., with the official program starting promptly at 6:45 p.m.
