Flint, MI — This October, the YWCA of Greater Flint is recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month under the national theme #Every1KnowsSome1, calling on Genesee County to shift from awareness to collective action.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
“Domestic violence thrives in silence, but together we can help change that,” said DeAndra Larkin, CEO of the YWCA of Greater Flint.
Larkin added: “Whether wearing purple, sharing resources, attending an event or supporting a survivor, every action matters. This month is about reminding survivors they are not alone and demonstrating our community’s commitment to safety, healing and ending domestic and sexual violence.”
The YWCA is inviting the public to participate in awareness activities and free community events throughout October:
