FLINT, Mich. — The City of Flint’s Office of Public Health is inviting residents to participate in a new educational Lunch & Learn series focused on helping individuals and families prepare for the future through estate and life planning.
Facilitated by Ashley Prew, the series — titled Taking Care of Tomorrow, Today — will be held from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. at the Mays Senior and Community Center on May 21, June 4, June 18, July 9, and July 23.
The Lunch & Learn sessions will provide an opportunity for community members to engage in meaningful conversations, gain practical knowledge and access information that supports long-term planning and personal well-being.
“Individuals often find themselves in probate court not because of crime, punishment or civil disputes, but because of a debilitating illness or the death of a family member,” said Ashley Prew. “We want to help people understand what probate is, how it can potentially be avoided and how to navigate the process in ways that save families time, money, and confusion during some of life’s most difficult moments.”
Topics will include:
-
What probate is and how the legal process works after death
-
Strategies to help avoid probate
-
The importance of wills and what they cover
-
Understanding financial, medical, and durable powers of attorney
“This series is about making sure residents have the information they need today to protect themselves and their loved ones tomorrow,” said Sheldon Neeley. “Through education and community engagement, we can help families better prepare for the future and navigate important life decisions with confidence.”
The Lunch & Learn Series is open to the public and seniors, caregivers and families are being encouraged to attend.
This program is for educational purposes only and does not include legal advice or legal representation.
