Genesee Health System receives top certification for Crisis Intervention Training program

GENESEE COUNTY, MIThe Genesee Health System (GHS) Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Program has been awarded Platinum Level Certification through CIT International. It is the only Platinum Level Certification program in the Michigan Region and one of only two regional CIT programs nationwide to be awarded the Platinum Level Certification.

A CIT Program is a community partnership of law enforcement, behavioral healthcare professionals and individuals and family members impacted by mental illness, substance use disorder or intellectual and developmental disabilities, to improve community response to behavioral health crises.

CIT International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation formed to assist communities worldwide with crisis response system reform by developing CIT programs. Certification reflects how closely aligned a CIT program is with recommended best practices. A Platinum-level program incorporates CIT best practices and is recognized as a leading program.

“This Platinum Level Certification involved a thorough evaluation process of our CIT program under the leadership of Kailey Baker, our Manager of Criminal Justice Diversion and lead trainer of the program,” said Jen McCarty, Chief Operations Officer at GHS. “We’ve known from the beginning that this training program would add value to our first responders’ expertise and positively impact our community. We appreciate our law enforcement partners who continue to train and work alongside us to address mental health crises.”

CIT focuses on improving the crisis response system, advocating for needed services, training first responders, and strengthening partnerships across the community. Based on the “Memphis Model,” CIT has been spreading across the U.S. and abroad since 1988. For more information, visit https://www.citinternational.org/CITProgramCertification.
